Purification (Śodhana)

To maintain true Svastha (health), we utilize Śodhana—the clinical method of eliminating deeply embedded Āma (toxins) and stagnant waste that the body can no longer process on its own.

What to Expect: This is an intensive process of "cleaning house." Unlike general detoxes, true Ayurvedic purification requires Virecana (therapeutic purgation) to clear the Pitta and liver pathways, or other specific elimination therapies. It is a focused, disciplined period of clearing the "sludge" to restore cellular intelligence.

The Necessity of Śodhana: Beyond Simple Detox

In the modern world, our systems are constantly bombarded by environmental pollutants, processed foods, and emotional stress. When the body’s natural intelligence can no longer move these burdens out, they turn into Āma—a sticky, toxic metabolic waste that clogs the Srotas (channels).

Unlike a "juice cleanse" or a weekend fast, Śodhana is a clinical extraction. It doesn't just extract surface toxins; it pulls them from the deep tissues (Dhātus) and guides them to the digestive tract for permanent removal.

The Pillar of Purification: Virecana

In my practice, we focus heavily on Virecana (therapeutic purgation) as the primary tool for Śodhana.

  • Pitta & Liver Focus: Virecana is the most effective way to clear excess Pitta (heat/fire) and congestion from the liver and gallbladder.

  • The Process: It involves a period of internal oleation (taking ghee), followed by specialized body treatments to "loosen" the toxins, and finally, a single day of purgation to flush the system entirely.

  • The Result: A profound sense of lightness, improved digestion, and a clarity of mind that allows the "inner alchemy" to take place.

Is Śodhana Right for You?

Purification is a powerful medicine and is not always the first step. It is specifically indicated for:

  • Chronic digestive issues or "sluggish" metabolism.

  • Inflammatory conditions or skin eruptions.

  • Feelings of mental heaviness, "fog," or lack of motivation.

  • Preparing the body for the deeper work of Pañcakarma.
